Pulp and Paper Vocational Building Construction Absorbs Investment IDR24,8 Billion

Sunday, January 21, 2018, Minister of Industry (Menperin) Airlangga Hartanto attend the Signing Agreement for the Development Cooperation of Pulp and Paper Vocational Building. The vocational building is a cooperation between Tanoto Foundation, PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper and University of Riau. The investment value of the building reached Rp24, 8 billion.


On this occasion, Airlangga was accompanied by Riau Governor Arsyadjuliandi Rachman, Pelalawan Regent HM Harris, and Director of Asia Pacific Resources International Limited (APRIL) Anderson Tanoto.


Airlangga said that The Ministry of Industry will continue to encourage the national industry to take an active role in the development of vocational education program, which brings the concept of link and match between educational institutions and the working world. Aside creating skilled and ready-to-use workforce that match with company requirement, the result of this vocational program is also able to increase industrial competitiveness.


Furthermore, Airlangga also handed over educational equipment from PT RAPP to SMK Negeri 1 Pangkalan Kerinci and SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru.


"We hope that this collaboration can increase the participation of citizen in Riau and surrounding areas in developing the potential of industrial resources in the Riau region. It also can absorb a lot of local workforce, "he said.


The construction of building and lecture infrastructure supported by complete laboratory facilities. These facilities is expected not only able to contribute to the country economically but also to improve the quality of human resources and high competitiveness in global, especially in the pulp and paper industry sector.


Furthermore, according to Airlangga, the pulp and paper industry contributes significantly to the national economy. That’s why now it is designated as one of the priority sectors of its development.


The Ministry of Industry noted that the competitiveness of Indonesian pulp and paper industry in the international arena is quite prominent, where the pulp industry placed in 10th position and the paper industry in the 6th position of the world, while in Asia occupies the 3rd ladder for the pulp and paper industry.


As seen from its role in the national economy, among others, its contribution in exports that can reach USD5, 1 billion in 2016. Meanwhile, based on data up to the third quarter of 2017, pulp and paper exports increased 18.05 percent compared to the period The contribution of the pulp and paper industry to GDP formation in Q3 / 2017 was 0.71 percent.
