Ministry of Industry Strategic Steps to Achieve 1 Million Certified Workers In 2019

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) place a target for certified workers as much as 1,142,752 peoplein 2017-2019. To reach one million certified workers, Kemenperin takes several strategic steps, one of them is by conducting vocational education and vocational training by hold link and match principal between SMK (vocational school) and the industry, 3in1 training, vocational education unit in Ministry of Industry and certification for industrial worker.
“Currently the development of human resources (HR) through strengthening vocational education is the government priority after infrastructure development. Human Resource Development aims to establish and produce a competent industrial workforce in accordance with industry needs or demand driven” said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta, Wednesday (22/11).
According the data from the Ministry of Industry, from all programs, in 2017 the number of certified workers targeted as much as 201,055 people, in 2018 458,109 people, and in 2019 483,409 people. So the total of the three year target becomes 1,142,752 certified workers.
“Of the four phases we have launched, for the link and match program between SMK and the industry, as many as 415 industries and 1,245 SMK produced as many as 254,037 certified workers. Until 2019, the contribution of this program is targeted to be 946,400 certified workers” he said.
Airlangga said that every launch of vocational program, Ministry of Industry facilitates the machinery and equipment from the industry to SMK. Until now, it has involved 45 industries for 282 vocational schools. In addition, the implementation of productive apprenticeship programs in the industry as many as 276 people and the working practices of vocational students in the industry as much as 722 people.
For 3in1 Training program, the number of workers who have been trained, certified and absorbed during 2014-2016 as many as 36,532 people. Meanwhile, in 2017-2019 targeted as many as 162,000 people. The training programs includes garment industry, palm oil, rubber, cocoa processing, furniture, plastics, cosmetics, cement and petrochemicals, electronics, animation and automotive.
Then, through the industrial vocational education unit within the Ministry of Industry, it is targeted to produce as many as 16,252 graduates until 2019. Currently, the Ministry of Industry has nine vocational schools, nine polytechnics, one academic community, and one Diploma I industry program. By 2019, three polytechnics and one community college will be added.
