Minister of Industry Develop Four Manufacturing Sectors to Face Industry 4.0

Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto revealed that he will develop four manufacturing sectors to face the fourth industry or Industry 4.0. This four sector will become a superior strength in Southeast Asia, there are automotive, electronics, food and beverage industries, and textile clothes footwear (TCF).


According to Minister of Industry, in the era of Industry 4.0, the industrial sector implements automation in the production process, by using robotic power that connected to the Internet in operation.


Minister of Industry believes that Indonesia has an industrial competitiveness in four sectors that are now being driven along with other Asean countries. For example, the automotive sector, in addition to having a large domestic market, Indonesia is also plays role as production base for several world automotive companies.


Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), transportation equipment industry growth 5.63 percent or above the national economic growth of 5.06 percent in the third quarter of 2017. In addition, the sector is one of the largest contributors to the formation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of non-oil and gas manufacturing sector with 10.11 percent.


Furthermore, the domestic electronics industry, show a positive performance. Until 2016, there are 23 electronics manufacturing services (EMS), 42 brands and 37 brand owners both global and national, with a total investment of IDR 7 trillion and absorb 13 thousand workers.


Meanwhile, the food and beverage industry is one of the strategic sectors and still has a bright prospect to grow in Indonesia.


BPS noted, the growth of the food and beverage industry by 9.46 percent in the third quarter / 2017 or up from the second quarter / 2017 performance of about 7.19 percent. This sector is able to contribute the GDP of non-oil / gas industry in the third quarter of 2017 of 34.95 percent, the highest compared to other sectors. Besides, industrial labor contribution is dominated by food and beverage sector as much as 3.3 million people or equal to 21.34 percent.


Meanwhile, according to Minister of Industry, for the clothing, textile and shoe industry groups have also been able to dominate the global market.


Therefore, the Ministry of Industry continues to encourage that Indonesia's flagship industries can be integrated in the supply chain at the ASEAN level. Related to the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community, this becomes an important momentum for the countries in Southeast Asia to further enhance economic cooperation, especially the industrial sector in order to complement each other.
