The government through the Ministry of Industry continues their campaign theme: love the domestic products. This step is to encourage national industry growth, to increase productivity and demand for domestic products and, to reduce consumption of imported products.

"The government has emphasized the use of domestic products, especially in the procurement of goods carried out by the government. If it doesn't start from us, then who else will?, "said the Head of the Industry Research and Development Agency (BPPI) of the Ministry of Industry, Ngakan Timur Antara at the University of Indonesia (UI) Depok, West Java, Monday (29/10).

According to him, currently several manufacturing industries have been able to compete in the global market. This achievement makes Indonesia considered as production base and exporter and can be categorized as an industrial country.

For example, Indonesia has a toy company that has mastered the global market, namely PT Mattel Indonesia. For Barbie dolls, six out of 10 in the world are produced by PT Mattel Indonesia. In addition, Hot Wheels toy cars, two of the 10 products in the world are made by our people.

The automotive industry is also makes us proud. "Daihatsu Indonesia is the largest automotive factory owned by Daihatsu in Japan. The production in Karawang is 500 thousand units per year, far more than the production from Japan with a maximum of 200 thousand units per year," he explained.

In the cellular telephone industry, Indonesia has become the production location for 42 cellphone brands throughout the world, with a total production reaching 68 million units per year. With this increase in capacity, cellphone imports which initially amounted to 62 million units in 2013, dropped to 11 million units in 2017.

"So, besides inviting people to love domestic products, we are also actively encouraging the growth of new industrial entrepreneurs," Ngakan said. During the four years of the government of Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla, there has been an increase in the population of large and medium industries. From 2014, there were 25,094 business units, up to 30,992 business units in 2017, which grew 5,898 business units.

"Meanwhile, in the small industry sector also experienced an increase, from 2014 as many as 3.52 million business units to 4.49 million business units in 2017. This means that it grew to 970 thousand small industries over the past four years," he said.
